Today was the first day of school in the Mallett Homeschool. We are starting quite a bit sooner than our homeschool friends. I attribute that to the amount of time we take off for travel and fun! If we are going to get through 36 weeks of school then we've got to get to movin! Even though our studies aren't necessarily according to a particular "grade", for those of you who are curious as to where the boys are academically... Grant is in the 5th grade and Clark is in 3rd. I hesitate to even write that because some subjects we study are on a 6th grade level- and others are 2nd grade. I try to find things that are fun and interesting and adapt them to fit our needs. This year we will be studying microscopic organisms all the way through the human body in our biology program. History will cover Queen Elizabeth the First through the Forty-Niners. They will continue in their creative writing endeavors (I'm hoping their stories will begin to include subject matter other than burps, farts and laser beams). We are starting a new Greek/Latin curriculum that I'm WAY excited about! (The old one was too boring for me!)
Piano lessons continue- both boys are working on music by the Beatles.
Swimming will remain their "sport" this year. Our swimming pool construction is supposed to start THIS week (I'm knocking on my table top as I type).
We are hoping to take the boys to New Orleans in the fall (after I've researched the history and found some "educational opportunities" for them) and we have our annual Grand Cayman trip planned for Thanksgiving. Whew! This school year is going to be busy, but exciting.
